Our dogs compete in two different racing venues:

LGRA Racing – Large Gazehound Racing Association Hounds chase a plastic bag and a squawker, which looks like a coon skin cap and honks like a goose! The hounds race 200 yards on a straight, flat track. Hounds are graded according to previous racing experience using a weighted average of the dog’s last three race meets. There are three programs with heats made up of a maximum of four dogs per race/heat. All dogs must run with properly fitted muzzles and race blankets. Dogs are released from racing boxes or hand-slipped, depending on the club and equipment available. Winners earn points towards the titles of “GRC” Gazehound Racing Champion and then on to “SGRC” Superior Gazehound Racing Champion.

NOTRA Racing – National Oval Track Racing Association This is very similar to LGRA, except the hounds race 240 to 300 yards on a oval, flat track. There are three programs with heats made up of a maximum of four dogs per race/heat. Winners earn points towards the titles of “ORC” Oval Racing Champion and then on to “SORC” Supreme Oval Racing Champion.
